General Information
The health services staff in the Rogers School District is dedicated to serving students. Our staff consists of nurses and paraprofessionals, and all of our schools have a nurse or paraprofessional assigned to help students. The health staff perform many services in the schools. They administer first aid and state-mandated screenings (scoliosis, vision, hearing and BMI) as well as maintain health records and administer medications. One of our most important and challenging roles is to help families obtain the medical care they need. We collaborate with the staff, counselors and social workers to provide students with the best possible care. Our nurses had prior medical experience before they began school nursing which enables them to serve our students well.

PARENTS: If your child is sick with a fever or flu-like symptoms, please keep your child home until he or she is fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing meidcations. Please notify the school if a doctor diagnoses your child with the flu.
Flu Tips for Parents/Students
- Wash your hands often. Wash with soap and water or clean with an alcohol-based hand cleaner. When washing your hands use warm water and soap and wash for 15-20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use the hand cleaner and rub your hands until the gel is dried.
- Cough/sneeze into a tissue and throw it in the trash. When a tissue is not available sneeze/cough into your sleeve (preferred) or hand. THEN thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water.
- Keep hands out of the mouth, nose and eyes. If you touch your mouth, nose or eyes thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water.
- Linens, eating utensils, and dishes belonging to someone who is sick do not need to be cleaned separately, but these items should not be shared before without washing thoroughly first. Influenza virus is destroyed by heat (167-212 degrees F).
- Do NOT share food or drinks.
- If you are at school and not feeling well tell your teacher; tell your parents if you are not at school.
- Avoid close contact with a person who is sick.
- Symptoms of the flu are fever, headache, extreme fatigue, sore throat, muscle aches, dry cough, runny or stuffy nose and occasionally stomach symptoms such as nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. You may not have all these symptoms when you have the flu.
- Once a child is sick it is recommended one adult be the caregiver for the child to help prevent the spread of the influenza virus to other family members.
- If a student is sick they should stay at home until they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of a fever-reducing medication (such as Tylenol or Motrin).
- The best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu vaccine each year. It is recommended for all persons 6 months and older.
